Spain Russia Lineup for the semi final

Spain coach Luis Aragones chose the same team that beat Russia 4-1 in their opening match at Euro 2008 for the semi-final clash between the sides at the Ernst Happel stadium on Thursday.

Striker David Villa, who scored a hat-trick against the Russians, will partner Fernando Torres up front while Cesc Fabregas, who scored the other goal, starts on the bench again.

Russia coach Guus Hiddink made one change to the side that beat Netherlands 3-1 in the quarter-finals, bringing Vasily Berezutsky into central defence for the suspended Denis Kolodin.

Playmaker Andrei Arshavin, who missed the group-phase defeat by Spain, starts just behind striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who will hope to add to his three goals in the championship so far.

Germany Turkey lineup

Germany were unchanged for Wednesday’s Euro 2008 semi-final while midfielder Mehmet Aurelio returned from a one-match ban for depleted Turkey.

Germany coach Joachim Loew named the team that beat Portugal 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Midfielder Torsten Frings, who has recovered from a rib injury, had to be content with a place on the bench.

Turkey, who have four players suspended and a host of others injured, brought in Semih Senturk up front after the forward came on and scored the 122nd minute equaliser in the quarter-final against Croatia.

Midfielder Ayhan Akman makes his first appearance of the tournament.

However, the brilliant little FC Zenit St. Petersburg playmaker is considered far too important to the team’s overall prospects to be left at home.

  • Born in St Petersburg, he has spent whole career to date at local side Zenit.
  • Inspired Zenit to first Russian Premier-Liga title in 2007, starting all 30 matches and scoring ten goals.
  • Has never played UEFA Champions League football but a regular participant in the UEFA Cup, helping Zenit to quarter-finals in 2006 (five goals in 13 appearances) and to this year’s final against Rangers FC in Manchester, where he helped his side claim a 2-0 victory and their first European title.
